People with AIDS are not quarantined. If tested for AIDS, there is no need to worry too much, as AIDS is now completely preventable and controllable. Patients with AIDS who are indicated for antiviral treatment need to be treated promptly. After antiretroviral treatment, the number of viruses in most patients will gradually decrease, or even become undetectable. If the virus count is zero, then such patients are basically not contagious and only need to take normal medication and can live, work and study normally. Patients with HIV need to be reviewed regularly during the course of antiretroviral treatment, usually at the local CDC, and have regular CD4 cell and HIV-RNA tests to assess their condition.
