Timing of Upper Eyelid Ptosis Correction

  Ptosis is one of the more common eye problems, most of which are congenital and affect not only beauty but also vision, so it is necessary to choose surgery early to treat it.  The reason for the ptosis is clinically divided into congenital ptosis or acquired ptosis, and the best time for ptosis correction varies from cause to cause.  I. Congenital Ptosis Correction It is generally appropriate to operate at the age of 3-5 years old, or about 1 year earlier under anesthesia for clients with severe bilateral ptosis; for unilateral ptosis or ptosis that is not severe in both eyes, consider completing the surgery before school age; for congenital ptosis with abnormalities of the eye or other parts of the eye, such as microphthalmia syndrome, it is best to perform the surgery in stages, first Doing an inner canthoplasty or inner and outer canthoplasty, followed by upper eyelid ptosis correction six months later.  In the case of acquired ptosis, surgery should be performed only after the condition has stabilized for six months to a year; in the case of neurogenic ptosis, the condition must be stable for more than six months before surgery is considered; in the case of traumatic ptosis, surgery should be performed only after the wound has healed for 12 months, after the function of the levator muscle has basically returned to normal, and after the local scar has softened; in the case of myogenic ptosis, surgery should be performed only after the medication has failed to treat the wound. Surgery can be considered after 12 months when the client has no diplopia on the basis of insignificant medication; for tenosynovial ptosis, ptosis correction can be performed immediately if it obscures the visual axis or affects the appearance.
