The main principle of management is to use debridement to convert an open cranial brain injury into a closed cranial brain injury as soon as possible.
Only by turning the brain injury into a closed one can the next series of treatments be carried out. The debridement has the effect of decompressing, removing the haematoma and all the eroded tissues in the brain, protecting as much normal tissue as possible while debriding, and then going through reasonable anti-infection, antihypertensive and nutritional treatments to help patients recover their original quality of life to the maximum extent possible.
