Does high sperm malformation affect conception?

The result of sperm malformation rate in the semen analysis report often makes many patients sad, especially when they see that the sperm malformation rate is as high as 99%, they worry that they will not be able to have their own children. Will it affect the health of their offspring? Patients urgently need to know more about how much the sperm malformation rate affects fertility! Sperm malformation rate is properly understood: The production of spermatozoa requires a long process. From the most primitive spermatogonial stem cells that undergo continuous division to form spermatocytes, and finally sperm cells and mature spermatozoa. After the sperm are produced in the testes, they undergo a maturation process before they are capable of fertilization. During the process of sperm formation, many undesirable factors can affect the sperm, resulting in abnormal sperm. If the percentage of normal spermatozoa is less than 4%, it is clinically diagnosed as teratozoospermia. Teratozoospermia is strictly defined according to sperm morphological criteria. Sperm with normal morphology are considered to be sperm with fertilization potential, and the higher the percentage of normal morphology sperm, the higher the fertilization rate; conversely, the lower the percentage of normal morphology sperm, which can seriously affect the fertilization rate. Can I still get pregnant with a high sperm malformation rate? A high sperm malformation rate decreases the conception rate to a certain extent, but it is not necessarily impossible to get pregnant. The number of sperm in a normal male ejaculation is up to several hundred million, even if the percentage of normal sperm is only one percent, there are still millions of normal sperm in a single ejaculation, which is enough to fertilize a normal egg. Even if the deformity is close to 100%, as long as the sperm has good acrosome integrity and the tail deformity is not severe, there is still a chance of conception. If the sperm acrosome is small or missing, such as round-headed sperm with a too short or too long tail, the chances of conception can still be seriously affected. Can high sperm malformation rate cause miscarriage? There is no clear evidence of a direct relationship between sperm malformations and miscarriage. There are many factors that can cause miscarriage and it is recommended that couples consult a specialist to further screen for the cause of miscarriage. Can high sperm malformation rate affect fetal malformation? There are many factors that affect fetal malformations, mainly hereditary and environmental factors. There are no studies that show a relationship between sperm malformation and fetal malformation. There is no need to worry too much, as nature’s law of “survival of the fittest” is also at its best when it comes to fertilization. Those abnormal sperm that are indiscriminately used often have no chance to meet the egg, and even if they do, they cannot fertilize the egg, not to mention the embryo implantation and pregnancy. Will high sperm malformation rate affect the success rate of IVF? High sperm malformations do affect the sperm fertilization rate in natural fertilization, but with second generation IVF technology, known as intracytoplasmic single sperm injection (ICSI), embryo lab personnel evaluate sperm morphology under an inverted microscope based on a series of methods to select morphologically normal motile sperm for insemination so that fertilization rates are not affected by malformation rates. Embryo development is affected by many factors, such as egg quality, sperm quality, embryo culture system and culture environment, etc. Similarly, the success rate of IVF is also affected by many factors, and a high rate of sperm malformation alone does not affect the success rate of IVF.
