The first enzyme to be elevated in acute pancreatitis

Acute pancreatitis is a common surgical emergency abdomen, and the first increase in blood amylase will be found when the blood biochemical indexes are reviewed in acute pancreatitis. The blood amylase can appear to rise gradually within a few hours after the onset of pancreatitis, reaching the highest value within 24 hours and gradually decreasing within 3-5 days. Urinary amylase may be slower to respond than blood amylase, and it can gradually increase after 24 hours of onset, and gradually return to normal in about 3-4 weeks. Patients with acute pancreatitis can also have lipase checked, as it is more specific but not particularly sensitive. For acute pancreatitis, although the initial screening can be done by rechecking blood and urine amylase, it is also necessary to further confirm the diagnosis in conjunction with ultrasound and CT of the patient’s pancreas, which may have a higher diagnostic rate.
