The more you wear glasses, the more myopic you become

Glasses don’t get more myopic, but rather refractive errors can have adverse consequences if patients don’t wear glasses. Many patients have a prejudice against wearing glasses, especially children and families of children with low vision. In fact, once a diagnosis of true myopia is made, glasses are required, especially in children. Glasses are a tool to help patients with refractive errors see clearly, and are the equivalent of a crutch for patients with mobility problems, which can aggravate leg problems without the help of a crutch. Clinical trials have shown that children who do not wear glasses have a faster myopia than those who wear glasses. In addition to the fact that the development of the eye is not yet stable, in general, when looking at near objects, the refractive system of the orthoptic or mildly myopic eye will be imaged after the retina, and the object on the retina is blurred, so in order to move the object behind the eye to the retina, the adjustment force of the lens is often increased to make the object clear, so the prolonged close eye use, excessive and inappropriate ciliary muscle Therefore, prolonged near eye use, excessive and inappropriate contraction of the ciliary muscle causes spasm of the ciliary muscle, lasting abnormal adjustment to form myopia, and in order to adapt to the presence of objects behind the eye, the back of the eye is constantly lengthened backwards, leading to the deepening of myopia. If a minor with high myopia (greater than 600 degrees) does not wear glasses, the object image cannot be presented to the retina and the development of the retina cannot be stimulated, which may lead to amblyopia over time. In addition, because the patient can not see objects clearly, “squinting” and other bad habits, the eyes are in a long-term fatigue, myopia is also easy to aggravate. At the same time, myopia can also affect the daily life of people who do not wear glasses. In summary, wearing glasses will not make you more myopic, but true myopia in minors without glasses can also cause amblyopia and myopia to deepen.
