What is the treatment for unicornuate uterus?

Symptomatic and surgical treatment can be attempted for unicornuate uterus, but treatment is limited and is not necessary for most patients, as detailed below.
Unicornuate uterus is a congenital developmental malformation in which only one side of the uterus has a well-developed paramedian tube and the other side is completely undeveloped or does not form a duct. The condition is characterised by structural abnormalities of the uterus, where the unilateral uterus and ovaries are structurally and functionally normal, but the contralateral ovary and fallopian tube are absent. This means that if the patient has a sound side of the uterus that is able to meet the needs of a growing foetus, no treatment is required. However, some patients have a unilateral uterus with little space to meet the demands of fertility, which can result in miscarriage, premature birth and fetal growth retardation, which can be treated with intensive fertility preservation.
