How vitiligo comes about

Vitiligo is an acquired depigmentation disease. It is caused by the destruction or loss of melanocytes, resulting in depigmented white patches of skin and mucous membrane. The cause and pathogenesis of vitiligo is complex and not fully understood, currently there are mainly the following etiological theories: i. genetic susceptibility theory; ii. autoimmune theory; iii. oxidative stress theory; iv. melanocyte self-destruction theory; v. neurohumoral theory; among which the role of oxidative stress and autoimmunity in the pathogenesis of vitiligo is gaining attention, the incidence of Chinese Han Chinese is about 0.05%-0.2% The incidence of vitiligo is about 0.05%-0.2% in Chinese Han population, which manifests as localized white patches of skin, porcelain or milky white, with a 10%-60% chance of hair turning white.
