With the improvement of economic level and the increasing westernization of lifestyle, the ranks of obese children in China are getting bigger and bigger, obesity in childhood and cardiovascular disease in adulthood are closely related, the following set of data is our survey results for your reference. Our obesity research group analyzed the epidemiological survey data of 22,071 (11,638 males and 10,433 females) primary and secondary school students aged 7 to 16 years old in six cities of Beijing, Tianjin, Hangzhou, Shanghai, Chongqing and Nanning in 2010; the data included human morphological indicators, blood pressure, fasting glucose, triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ( HDL-C and non-HDL-C; the prevalence of overweight and obesity was calculated. The results showed that (1) the overall prevalence of overweight and obesity among children and adolescents aged 7-16 years was 19.9%, and the prevalence of obesity was 8.9%. (2) The prevalence of obesity was 16.9% in the northern region, 4.9% in the eastern region, and 5.9% in the middle in the central and western regions; the prevalence of obesity was higher in males than in females (10.9% vs. 6.6%; P=0.000). (3) The prevalence of metabolic syndrome in children and adolescents aged 7-16 years was 2.4% and 1.4%, respectively, and the prevalence of obesity was 28.8% and 16.8%, respectively, using the MS-CHN2012 (Chinese standard) and MS-IDF2007 (international standard) definitions. Obesity focuses on prevention, controlling the dietary intake of affected children, balancing nutrition, doing more exercise and changing poor lifestyles so as to achieve weight control and reduce the occurrence and development of obesity-related diseases.
