Oral rehydration is required for children who are vomiting. Oral rehydration salts (i.e., a packet of rehydration salts from the hospital or pharmacy in 500 ml of lukewarm water) are given, and older children may be given diluted apple juice (one part of apple juice to three parts of water) or 500 ml of rice broth with half a beer-bottle cap of table salt instead of oral rehydration salts, and the dosage and frequency of these salts in the first hour is very important, otherwise oral rehydration fails and the condition is worsened. Severe dehydration will require fluids. Children 6-23 months 5ml each time, fed every 5 minutes.
