Neonatal lactation is when 1-2 mouthfuls of milk flow back into the baby’s mouth immediately after a feeding and then ripple out from the corners of the mouth. In a few cases, the newborn’s milk is sloshed due to a change of position a few moments after feeding (mostly when changing the baby’s diaper shortly after feeding). The condition of newborns with milk loss is generally good and does not affect their growth and development, so it can be considered normal. As the baby grows older, this phenomenon will disappear naturally within 6 months after birth. Vomiting is a common phenomenon in the newborn period. The vomiting is different from the milk, vomiting is due to some abnormal stimulation of the digestive tract and other related organs caused by the neuroreflex action. When vomiting, milk mostly gushes out of the mouth in a jet-like manner. The vomit can be milk or milk lumps. The causes of vomiting are complex, and vomiting in newborns is different from vomiting in children of other ages, and is greatly related to the anatomical and physiological characteristics of the neonatal digestive tract. The newborn’s stomach is horizontal and transverse, with a small capacity, and the entrance to the stomach is poorly developed, the cardia, and the exit is well developed, forming a tight exit and a loose entrance, so milk is likely to reflux and cause vomiting. Improper feeding or care, such as too many feedings, too much milk, too large or sunken nipples, or too large holes in the rubber nipple when feeding with a bottle, sucking milk too sharply or too quickly, or lying flat after feeding, or turning the baby too much or too early, can easily cause vomiting. In severe cases, the milk will also choke out of the nose. This kind of vomiting can be relieved by improving feeding and care methods. As a parent, pay particular attention to the newborn should be held upright after each feeding, pat the back, let it burp exhaust, and then gently let the child sleep in the right side, so as to avoid vomiting. If you still vomit after taking the above methods, you should go to the hospital to find out the cause of vomiting and deal with it promptly.
