Is dissociative disorder the same concept as schizophrenia?

“Dissociation is not the same concept as schizophrenia.
Dissociative disorder is a breakdown in memory, self-awareness or cognitive functioning, whereby the person dissociates from their consciousness the pain that exists in their memories or the desires and socially unacceptable impulses that may be present in their consciousness, in order to create self-protection, and as a result loses self-connection, manifesting as amnesia, wandering, multiple personalities, etc.
In contrast, schizophrenia (schizotypy) is a severe mental disorder characterised by multifaceted disturbances in perception, thought, emotion and behaviour and incoordination of mental activity, manifested by hallucinations, paranoia, bizarre delusions or disturbances in speech and thought, accompanied by marked social or occupational dysfunction.”
