What are the causes of dissociative disorders?

The causes of the development of dissociative disorders are not yet clear.
According to psychoanalytic theory, dissociation is the result of a painful childhood experience, which is repressed in the subconscious and manifests itself in the form of various symptoms of dissociation when one grows up and encounters similar life situations in a reshaped and symbolic way.
As explained by behaviourist theory, the various psychological abnormalities of dissociative disorders are the result of the patient’s learning an inappropriate way of coping with the reality of the situation by disguising it over time in order to avoid the psychological stress and distress caused by difficult events in the patient’s life since childhood, which over time form a habit and eventually evolve into a disease.
