What is osteomyelitis?

What is osteomyelitis: Inflammation of the bones and bone marrow cavity is called osteomyelitis. The term usually refers to inflammation of infectious origin. Osteomyelitis as a diagnostic term is nonspecific and ranges from subclinically insignificant bone infections to bone infections with significant pus-exuding sinus tracts and physical weakness. It involves clinically heavily treated pediatric patients as well as surgically managed trauma patients (e.g., Figures 1 to 3). Figure 2: Postoperative infection of femoral stem fracture with uncontrolled infection after multiple debridement procedures.
