How much is the tuberculin test?

The tuberculosis test is recommended to be performed at a regular hospital, and the price can range from a few tens of dollars to $200, depending on the region and the hospital’s test fee. Tuberculin test is a method used to determine the presence or absence of tuberculosis infection in the body by injecting tuberculin solution into the subcutaneous arm and then looking at the results two to three days later. If the body is infected with tuberculosis or has previously been infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the body will react to the injection by developing redness, swelling and nodules at the injection site, and the strength of the reaction will be determined by the size of the redness and nodules. A nodule is considered positive if it is between five and nine millimeters, moderately positive if it is more than ten to nineteen millimeters, and strongly positive if it is greater than 20 millimeters. It is important to note that a positive tuberculin test alone does not confirm a diagnosis of tuberculosis, as positive results can also occur in patients cured of tuberculosis, and in addition people who have been injected with BCG can also show a positive tuberculin test, but a strong positive result suggests that the organism currently has active tuberculosis. After the tuberculin test, it is necessary to pay attention to rest, avoid exertion and cold, pay attention to the injection site for redness, swelling and hard nodules, and prohibit scratching the skin of the inoculation site to avoid infection. Tuberculin test is widely used as an auxiliary diagnosis of tuberculosis. If tuberculosis infection is suspected, it is recommended to go to the local tuberculosis clinic or hospital for testing, and after the diagnosis is clear, regular and full anti-tuberculosis treatment should be administered.
