Aftermath of SARS

SARS is the abbreviation for infectious atypical pneumonia, a special pneumonia caused by SARS coronavirus that is significantly infectious and can involve multiple organ systems. Most patients with mild symptoms have a good prognosis, and a few severe cases are discharged with varying degrees of pulmonary fibrosis, femoral necrosis, synovitis and other sequelae: I. Respiratory sequelae: 1. Pulmonary fibrosis: mostly seen in diffuse interstitial fibrosis and focal fibrosis, as atypical pneumonia can damage normal lung tissue, which can cause scarring changes in the lungs due to abnormal lung tissue repair. Clinical manifestations are dyspnea, dry cough and other symptoms, and some patients can see pestle fingers, etc.; 2. Interstitial pneumonia: due to fibrosis after SARS coronavirus damages the interstitial lung, the clinical manifestations are mainly progressive worsening dyspnea, and the disease can continue to progress in severe cases, eventually causing respiratory failure and even leading to death; 3. Mechanized pneumonia: SARS coronavirus causes damage to fine bronchi and alveoli. In the process of tissue repair, excessive proliferation of granulation tissue and mechanization of alveolar exudates in the airways, resulting in mechanized pneumonia. Most subacute onset, common symptoms are varying degrees of dyspnea, etc. Second, the sequelae of the motor system: 1, femoral head necrosis: also known as ischemic femoral head necrosis, mainly manifested as hip as well as thigh pain, claudication, lower limb shortening deformity, etc.; 2, hip synovitis: after viral infection and stimulation of hip synovium, it can lead to the occurrence of hip synovitis. The main manifestations are hip joint swelling and pain, and with the development of the disease, joint adhesions and restricted activities may appear. Third, the sequelae of the mental system: SARS broke out in China in 2003, forming a large-scale disease, which may lead to the formation of emotional disorders such as tension, fear and anxiety, and symptoms such as insomnia, dreaminess, memory loss and lack of concentration.
