What is “cervical spondylosis” – how to determine, treat and prevent it

What is cervical spondylosis? Cervical spondylosis refers to a group of conditions that cause irritation or compression of adjacent spinal cord, nerves, blood vessels and other tissues due to cervical disc degeneration and its secondary changes, and cause corresponding symptoms. What can cause cervical spondylosis? The pathogenesis of cervical spondylosis is complex. It is generally believed that cervical spine dysplasia, improper posture such as long-term ambulation, playing cards, watching TV, etc., chronic strain injury, and over-activity of the cervical spine may all lead to cervical spondylosis. What are the manifestations of cervical spondylosis? According to the different syndromes, cervical spondylosis can be divided into neurogenic, spinal cord, vertebral artery and sympathetic types. The neurogenic type mainly manifests pain, numbness and hypoesthesia in specific areas of the upper limbs, and in serious cases, the strength of the upper limbs may be weakened and muscle atrophy may occur; the spinal cord type mainly manifests weakness and stiffness of the limbs, often with a feeling of stepping on cotton in both feet and clumsy fine operations, etc., and in later stages, urinary and fecal dysfunction may occur, and in serious cases, the limbs may be paralyzed; the main manifestations of the vertebral artery type include headache, vertigo, tinnitus and blurred vision, etc.; the sympathetic type Cervical spondylosis may have discomfort such as chilled skin, excessive sweating or no sweating, palpitations, eye distension and pain. It should be noted that the above symptoms can be caused by cervical spondylosis or may be the manifestation of other diseases and need to be diagnosed by a professional physician. Treatment of cervical spondylosis The treatment of cervical spondylosis is divided into conservative treatment and surgical treatment. Conservative treatment, i.e. non-surgical treatment, is applicable to most patients with cervical spondylosis, including medicine, traction, acupuncture and physiotherapy, etc. For severe neurogenic or spinal cord cervical spondylosis, surgery can be considered if regular conservative treatment for six months is ineffective. Daily care of cervical spondylosis Improve improper posture and avoid keeping the same posture of cervical spine for a long time; take proper rest and activities; choose a pillow of suitable height and softness and place it under the neck when sleeping to fully support the neck and keep the neck naturally relaxed to avoid falling down; pay attention to safety and prevent sudden aggravation of cervical spondylosis caused by trauma such as fall and car accident. Exercise method of cervical spine Sitting on the horizontal plane, relax your neck, keep your shoulders fixed, slowly lower your head so that your chin is in contact with your chest as much as possible; then tilt your head so that your head is tilted back as much as possible; tilt your head left and right in turn, keep your shoulders fixed so that your earlobes are as close to your shoulders as possible, and finally rotate your neck left and right, keep your shoulders fixed so that your chin is as close to your shoulders as possible. Repeat the above action several times. Or lie on the bed surface, keep the head and neck outside the bed surface, slowly lift the head and tilt it back, hold it for a few seconds and then slowly bury the head. Repeat the above action several times. Or practice swimming, breaststroke is better, repeatedly raising the head during swimming to change air can exercise the neck and shoulder muscles.
