Can ultrasound detect pelvic inflammatory disease?

Pelvic inflammatory disease can be detected by ultrasound examination. This is because ultrasound, especially color ultrasound, has a better visualization of the abdominal cavity and pelvic organs and can clearly diagnose diseases of the abdominal cavity and pelvic organs. Acute pelvic inflammatory disease is divided into acute pelvic inflammatory disease and chronic pelvic inflammatory disease. Acute pelvic inflammatory disease will show up on ultrasound as a large reflective area or even a large number of echogenic dark areas on ultrasound because there is a large amount of fluid in the pelvis. In the case of chronic pelvic inflammatory disease, dark areas of pelvic fluid and highly visible areas of inflammatory adhesions can also be observed on ultrasound.
