Why do facial muscle spasms occur in the face?

Facial muscle spasm is a kind of involuntary twitching that occurs in the facial muscles, paroxysmal and irregular, with varying degrees, which can be aggravated by fatigue, mental tension and voluntary movement, and generally does not heal on its own, with a high incidence in middle-aged and elderly people and long-term recurrent attacks, which have a great impact on the physical and mental health of patients and their working life. According to clinical research, about 80% to 90% of patients with sudden facial myospasm are due to vascular compression of the facial nerve in the brainstem area, such as the anterior inferior cerebellar artery and posterior inferior cerebellar artery, etc. In addition, the superior vagus artery and other variant large arteries such as vertebral artery and basilar artery may also form compression of the facial nerve resulting in facial myospasm. This is also the cause of primary facial spasm. There are also some patients with secondary facial myasthenia with a clear medical history and organic factors, and the following causes are common. 1, a part of patients with idiopathic facial nerve palsy, after recovery, there is secondary facial muscle spasm on the affected side. It may be a pathological change of nerve demyelination due to facial neuritis that failed to return to normal. There is still partial demyelination, making the electrical conduction of the facial nerve susceptible to generalization, or facial neuritis involves the nerve nuclei in the brainstem, forming an epilepsy-like foci and producing seizure-like twitching of the facial muscles. 2. Very few patients develop facial muscle spasms in the affected area after traumatic tumors or surgical procedures. This may be due to a short circuit with other brain nerves during the recovery of the facial nerve, and when other nerves are excited, one side of the facial muscle twitching also occurs. 3. Non-vascular occupying lesions in the pontocerebellar horn, such as sarcoidosis, tumors (cholesteatoma and auditory neuroma), cysts and encephalitis, arachnoiditis, multiple sclerosis, cranial sunkenness, and other factors may also produce facial muscle spasms. Why do facial spasms occur in the face? There are many causes, and the above are the common causes found. In the treatment, find out the specific cause in order to achieve the goal of cure, do not throw the disease to the doctor, blind treatment, resulting in aggravation of the disease, delayed treatment, increasing the suffering of patients. Be sure to choose the regular hospital treatment.
