Can children and adolescents get prostatitis?

The prostate gland is a very important part of the body. The actual fact is that prostate disease almost always occurs in adult men, but it doesn’t mean that children and adolescents don’t suffer from prostate disease, prostatitis is not uncommon in adolescents, and is occasionally reported in children. The symptoms of chronic prostatitis in children and adolescents are often unique, with painful discomfort and reflex pain in the lower abdomen and perineum being less common, and mostly frequent urination, which can be accompanied by painful final urination, hematuria and difficulty in urination. In adolescents, poor excessive masturbation habits may be one of its causes, or it can be secondary to acute prostatitis, or due to unknown causes, and can be accompanied by urinary tract infections, especially chronic pyelonephritis, along with symptoms of bladder irritation. The main reason for this is that children are more prone to infectious diseases in other parts of the body, such as acute lymphadenitis, acute skin and soft tissue infections, acute tonsillitis and acute respiratory, digestive and urinary tract infections, etc. The bacteria from these parts of the infection reach the prostate through the blood circulation and cause acute inflammation of the prostate. The clinical symptoms and treatment of acute prostatitis in children are similar to those in adults, but more attention should be paid to the effect the disease may have on the general condition of the child as well as to avoid misdiagnosis.
