What should I do if I have sudden onset deafness?

Sudden deafness (sudden deafness) is a sudden onset of sensorineural hearing loss of unknown origin that can occur within minutes, hours, or 3 days, with a hearing loss of at least 20 dBz in at least 2 connected frequencies. It is an acute condition in otology and its pathogenesis remains unclear. The incidence rate is 5/10-20/100,000 and the age of onset is around 50 years old, but in recent years the incidence rate has increased significantly and the age of onset is younger. What should be done after the diagnosis of sudden deafness? 1. The first time to seize the hospital treatment: Because the treatment effect of sudden deafness is most related to the time from the onset to the beginning of treatment, that is, the earlier the treatment, the better the effect, because the real cause of sudden deafness is unknown at present, about 30% of patients are still ineffective even after active treatment. 2. Adherence to treatment: Some patients give up treatment after a few days of treatment and find that there is still no effect. Generally, two courses of treatment (one course in about 10 days) are needed, and the recovery time varies according to the type of sudden deafness and the degree of hearing loss and individual differences. Of course, the earlier it is effective, the better the prognosis is relatively. 3. Try your best to treat: Some people think, I still have a good ear, one can’t hear and it’s okay. The truth is that a small percentage of patients will have sudden deafness in the other good ear, and it will be very tricky at that time. The Editorial Board of the Chinese Society of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery and the Chinese Journal of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery organized a large-scale clinical multicenter study of sudden deafness in 33 hospitals nationwide. The study classified sudden deafness into four types based on the hearing curve of pure tone audiometry: low to mid-frequency descending, mid to high frequency descending, flat and total deafness.
