I. Background and foundation of the establishment of cervical spine tendon adjustment
Along with the modernization of society, in the fast-paced life and busy work pressure, many bad habits and postures, such as: students often lying down to read a book for 2 or 3 hours, urban white-collar workers do in front of the computer or even one is 8 hours, coupled with the natural degeneration of the spine of the middle-aged and elderly, often have headaches and dizziness, neck and shoulder pain, numbness of the upper limbs, and even panic, chest tightness, cold sweat and other symptoms. Cervical spondylosis began to rapidly spread in the old, middle-aged and young people at all levels, the incidence rate in recent years is rapidly increasing trend, according to the Ministry of Health published findings show that the prevalence of cervical spondylosis in China has reached 17%, and the incidence rate of office workers far exceeded this figure, about 70% or more, the country’s cervical spondylosis patients at least 200 million people, which is a shocking number.
The emergence of cervical spondylosis not only reduces the quality of life and work efficiency, more terrible is that as the development of cervical spondylosis continues to spread, if the compression of the squeezed vertebral artery, reducing the blood supply to the brain, greatly increasing the chances of ischemic stroke; if the compression of the spinal cord, or even cause paralysis. This shows that the danger of cervical spondylosis speaks for itself.
Most patients with cervical spondylosis are caused by long-term static chronic strain such as ambulatory learning work, prolonged low posture, so that the elongated muscle fibers begin to partially break and aseptic inflammation, resulting in chronic damage to muscle ligaments, cervical spine stability decline, resulting in a variety of cervical spine syndrome. Therefore, if the rate of strain on the neck muscles is controlled, the pace of cervical spondylosis is delayed; the tension in the neck muscles is regulated, and the incidence of cervical spondylosis is effectively reduced. In the above chapter we talked about that self-exercise is the best means to prevent and treat cervical spondylosis. Cervical spine self-adjustment is such a self-exercise method to relieve the tension of the neck muscles and reduce the degree of strain. It comes from the summation of more than 50 years of experience in the treatment of cervical spondylosis in our department, and the effective clinical therapies of acupuncture points, tui-na, traction and physiotherapy are analyzed and reorganized into a self-exercise method that can be operated by ourselves and is safe without side effects. It has the following characteristics: the action is simple and easy to learn, the form of sitting and standing can be, the practice of both static and dynamic, the combination of movement and massage. The cervical spine Chinese medicine self-adjustment technique has been verified through years of clinical and rehabilitation, which proves that its health care effect is remarkable and can play a role in delaying the onset of disease and improving the state of disease.
Beijing Science and Technology Commission Science Popularization Special Grant
In order to enhance the capacity of science popularization in Beijing, promote the further improvement of the scientific quality of citizens, and promote the sustainable and healthy development of science popularization in Beijing, the Beijing Municipal Commission of Science and Technology (BCS&T) has set up a special project for science popularization under the theme of “Promoting Science Popularization Plan”. Our unit is funded by the special fund of Beijing Science and Technology Commission to carry out the promotion activities of Chinese medicine cervical spine self-adjustment tendon technique.
3.The content of the tendon adjustment technique
The name of this gongfu movement
Tendon adjustment starts from adjusting the “tendon meeting”; pressing and rubbing the neck and double dragon meeting;
Holding the head and turning the neck; knocking on the shoulder well; pecking rice
Tilt and turn; Tendon adjustment stops at the “marrow meeting”.
This gong method is based on traditional Chinese medicine theory, meridian and acupoint theory and modern medical anatomical knowledge; it is based on Tui-Na techniques, traction therapy and sports rehabilitation, and is mainly designed to relieve excessive fatigue or long-term strain on the neck and shoulders, with the aim of improving local symptoms such as soreness, stiffness and heaviness in the neck and shoulders.
The time of gongfu practice can be randomly determined
The intensity of kung fu exercises should vary from person to person
Features of kung fu
o Simple and easy to learn movements
o Form can be done in sitting or standing
o The exercises are both dynamic and static
o Combination of movement and tui-na
I: Tendon adjustment begins with the “tendon meeting”
Sitting or standing bending over and rubbing the “tendon meeting” – Yanglingquan (on the outer side of the calf, when the fibula head is in the depression below the front)
The duration of this section is about 1 minute.
Related explanation.
The ancient people have “tendons will Yanglingquan”, the cervical spine and its surrounding muscles and ligaments belong to the tendons and bones, the treatment of tendons when the first to take Yanglingquan.
Two: press and rub the neck double dragon will
(1) the practitioner or sitting or standing, facing the front; arms up, hands five fingers together, middle fingertips relative, placed in the neck – point rubbing points, qi regulating tendons
(2) head down, the tips of the middle fingers of both hands pressed together on top of the spinous process of the cervical vertebrae, and the rest of the fingers arranged in order in the depressions of the upper and lower ends of the spinous process of the vertebrae under pressure – to regulate the meridians
(3) tilt the head, while the fingers pressed downward (also in the head up at the same time the two fingers pressed down and slide to the sides of the neck) – traction and tendon management
(4) Repeat the head tilting action seven times, and press the middle finger with both hands from the ring vertebrae down to the seventh cervical vertebrae – point and rub the bone will.
This section takes about 2 minutes, seven times as a group, can do 2 to 3 groups.
Related explanation.
This section mimics the massage of meridian points and traction therapy in tui na. In this section, the supraspinous and interspinous ligaments are rubbed, and pressure is applied to the Fengfu, Dumeng, and Dazhi points to move the joints – according to the principles of Tui Na manipulation. Pulling ligaments, muscles; upper limbs, spine – according to the principle of traction.
Three: holding head and turning neck butterfly fly
(1) The practitioner sits or stands, facing forward; arms are raised, hands crossed, placed on the occiput behind the head; shoulders are abducted, elbow tips pointing to both sides – chest expansion and traction
(2) Low head and neck: first face to the left, left elbow as far as possible to keep still, eyes look at the tip of the left elbow; at the same time, the right arm inside together to assist the head and neck to the left, the tip of the right elbow to the left elbow as far as possible to close; a short pause after restoration – tendon repair
(3) low head and turn the neck: the same action as (2); opposite direction
(4)Do 3 – 4 times for about 2 minutes each.
Related explanation.
This section simulates the rotational repositioning method of tui na and broad chest. Rotating the neck and broad chest in this section – according to the joint activity class tui na technique (trigger method). Pulling the small joints of the cervical spine, the muscles of the back of the neck and the shoulder joints – traction principle
Four: Knocking on the shoulder well and chicken pecking rice
(1) The practitioner sits or stands, facing the front; arms are raised, and the five fingers of both hands are brought together to form a hook
(2) Knock on the ipsilateral shoulder well point and its surrounding areas with the fingertips of both hands, starting from the left and falling from the right, – pointing through the meridians, – the principle of traction.
The duration of this section is about 1 – 2 minutes or about 50 times each on the left and right.
Related explanation.
This section simulates the motor upper extremity and acupuncture point treatment of Tui Na. Movement of the upper extremities – the principles of the movement of the joints in Tui Na manipulation. Percussion on the neck and shoulder muscles and points such as shoulder well, shoulder middle, shoulder outer, and Bingfeng – acupuncture points
5: Pitching and turning
(1) The practitioner either sits or stands, facing forward; hands crossed at the waist
(2) head down and neck flexed, jaw as close to the chest as possible, while containing the chest, shoulders and elbows also tightened inward; head back, while expanding the chest, shoulders and elbows also spread backward
(3)Rotate the head and neck from left to right 360°, and then rotate from right to left 360° – the tendons are adjusted and repaired
This section is usually repeated 3 to 4 times, and the time is about 1 minute.
Related explanation.
This section mainly simulates the head shaking method of traction and tui na. Stretching the muscles and ligaments of the collar and back; spinal column – traction principle. Exercising the neck, shoulders and back, broad chest – Exercising the joints
6: Tone the tendons and stop at the “marrow meeting”
Breathing evenly, at the point of “medullary meeting” (on the outside of the lower leg, when the tip of the outer ankle is 3 inches above, slightly in front of the front edge of the fibula.) End the kneading.
Related explanation.
”The marrow is the basis for moistening the tendons and bones, and strain will injure the tendons and marrow, so take the marrow to nourish the bones and marrow.
This section takes about 1 minute.
Notes
o The trick to practice is to be diligent and skillful, do not be a violent ten cold
o The strength of the points should be moderate
o The articulation of each movement should be gentle and slow
o sensitive neck structure, never use too much force when turning and wrenching
o Weak or chronically ill patients should be slow and small when moving and rotating the neck
