Stuttering is a speech disorder, mainly manifested in the repetition of words and interruptions in speech. According to the data, stutterers account for 1% of the total population in Japan and 1.2% in the United States, and there are no accurate statistics in China yet. The causes of stuttering have not yet been determined, but at present, there are several views. Biological factors view Biological factors view In recent years, foreign scholars have studied the language functions of the two hemispheres of the brain and found that there are differences in the local blood and electrophysiological indicators of the two hemispheres of the brain when stuttering patients speak, in an attempt to show that the occurrence of stuttering has its biological basis in the abnormal connection between the two hemispheres of the brain. Other experts believe that stuttering has a genetic predisposition and a high incidence of stuttering in males, which can be used as evidence of biological factors. In addition, certain physical diseases such as influenza, measles, whooping cough, diphtheria, scarlet fever and other infectious diseases or trauma to the brain are found to cause stuttering, which may be related to the damage to brain function caused by these diseases. Prevention and correction of stuttering For the prevention and correction of children’s stuttering, parents and teachers should first be instructed to correctly understand the laws of children’s language development and correctly treat the phenomenon of children’s stuttering. They should not be impatient or accuse or correct children too much for their learning and speaking, so as not to cause psychological disorders in children. By giving children a harmonious and relaxed speaking environment and gradually cultivating good speaking habits, most children who stutter will turn into normal speech tracks and make their stuttering disappear. For older or heavier stuttering children, appropriate language correction training can also be taken, including muscle relaxation, coordination of breathing and speaking, slowing down speech, and extended vowel articulation training. In adults, stuttering habits are complicated and stubborn due to their long-term formation, so the correction process is also more complicated and time-consuming. At present, stuttering correction institutions in China mainly treat stuttering patients from two aspects, namely comprehensive psychotherapy and systematic language training. In comprehensive psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy is mainly used, such as making patients correctly understand the law of the development of stuttering, eliminating the misconception that stuttering is incurable and that stuttering is a physical defect, together with relaxation training, self-confidence training, emotional control training and systematic desensitization and other psychological therapies, all in eliminating patients’ psychological barriers. In the language training, according to the long-formed bad pronunciation and speaking habits of stuttering patients and the symptoms of breathing disorder when speaking, we learn, train and apply the methods and techniques to gradually establish normal pronunciation and speaking habits by inducing pronunciation, adopting gentle and slow speaking methods and coordinating training of breathing and pronunciation.
