Oral ulcer is a common ulcerative damage among oral mucosal diseases, which occurs on the lips, cheeks and tongue edge, and has the characteristic of periodic recurrence. The disease can be seen at any age, mostly in women, and can occur throughout the year. Ulcers are self-limiting and generally heal on their own in 7-10 days. It is perfect if dealt with by nutritional dietary therapy.
Causes
According to Chinese medicine, this disease is mostly caused by heat accumulation in the heart and spleen and yin deficiency and fire. Modern medicine believes that recurrent mouth ulcers are closely related to immunity in the first place. In addition, frequent occurrence of anemia, partial diet, indigestion, diarrhea, fever, lack of sleep, excessive fatigue, mental tension, work stress, and change of menstrual cycle can also cause the body’s immunity to decline, resulting in frequent attacks of recurrent mouth ulcers.
Symptoms
The main clinical symptoms of oral ulcers are the recurrent appearance of small round or oval ulcerated surfaces on the oral mucosa, which may occur singly or in any part of the oral mucosa, with severe spontaneous pain. The systemic symptoms are not very obvious. The ulcer surface is about 2~3 mm in diameter, with a bottom line, neat edges and a red halo around it. The ulcer surface is covered with yellowish-white fibrous exudate and has severe burning pain, which is aggravated by cold, heat, acid, salt and other stimuli, making it difficult to speak and eat. It does not leave any scars after healing, but can recur with weather, emotions, exertion and other factors. The disease can be prolonged for several years or even decades.
