In acupuncture clinics today, most of the soft tissue disorders such as neck, shoulder, lumbar and leg pain are treated with acupuncture and fire cupping, and the points selected are generally fixed combinations of agreed points. So, how about the main treatment methods of ancient acupuncturists for this type of disease? We may want to lift the most classic work of acupuncture, “Ling Shu” needle scriptures, to see what they say. After discussing the distribution of the meridians, the “Ling Shu Jing Tendon” says about the treatment of meridian diseases: “…… The treatment is in burnt needles and robbing stabs, with knowledge as the number, and pain as the loss. Burnt, from the “Nei Jing” era of the relevant canonical texts can be understood as: 1, sizzling, roasting. The poem “Shi Jing? Xiao Ya? Gourd leaves” “the burnt of the gun.” 2.Burning. In Han Fei Zi and the Book of the Dead, “Burnt the Poem and the Book of the Dead and made the decree clear.” Burnt needles means fire needles. In the book of “Ling Shu Guan Yin”: “n stabbing, stabbing burnt needles then take paralysis also.” The Classical Classic, Vol. 19, Zhang Jiebin said: “It is said to burn the needle and stab, that is, the genus of the later burning needles, to take the cold paralysis used.” The acupuncture and moxibustion Dacheng, volume six, said clearly: “fire needles, a burnt needles.” The second refers to the warm needle. The “Su Wen Tiao Jing Lun” “disease in the tendons, the tendons of the …… burnt needle robbing its lower and with the urgent”, Wu note: “burnt needle person, after the internal needle, burnt with fire ear. The class Jing” disease class Zhang Jiebin explained burnt needles said: “cover after the inner needle, burnt with fire to make warm.” Also: “Burnt needle, burning needle also.” We have seen that there are two different explanations for burnt needles. What about robbing needles? The “Ling Shu Jing Shu Shu Shu” says: “Needle stabbing that is out is called robbing stabbing, that is, the stabbing method of fast stabbing and fast out.” While Zhang Jiebin says: “Robbing the prick, because of the fire energy and robbing the cold evil also.” In summary, we can basically clarify two different statements about burnt needle robbing stabbing, namely: 1. the application of fire needle n stabbing, rapid needle in and needle out. 2. the use of the warm needle method, after the needle in and stay on the needle, the process of staying on the needle handle placed moxa fire burning to warm the needle. It is easier to understand “to know as the number, to pain as the infusion”, to know as the number, it means that the patient’s feeling to judge the return of the disease to determine the number of treatments, to pain as the acupuncture point that pressure pain points, the foci of disease reflected in the body surface of the pain store is the acupuncture points to be selected for treatment. Unlike today’s people, the treatment of meridian tendon disease “in the burnt needle robbing pricking, to know for the number of pain for the loss”, is the main fire attack needling, stimulation is not a fixed point of acupuncture. In the Nei Jing, in addition to burnt needles and n-pricks, the application of circular needles and large needles is often mentioned for the treatment of meridian diseases. I have a deep appreciation for this passage of the Nei Jing due to the frequent use of fire needling and acupuncture therapy. Fire needle and warm needle two comparisons, fire needle fire fierce, convenient and rapid treatment, the effect comes quickly, more than 800 degrees of temperature, piercing the skin, its heat quickly spread to the surrounding, its ability can be imagined. But the fire needle also has its limitations, the joint gap is not good to use, the yin surface nerve large blood vessel distribution area can not be used. Therefore, fire needling and warm needling can be used in combination. As for the pain as a loss, is not as simple as most people say Mr. A is the point, pain loss is not the patient can easily speak clearly, depending on the doctor’s knowledge and experience accumulated over the years, acupuncture therapy is an obvious example. Those so-called Confucian doctors who memorize fixed points in textbooks by rote and ridicule others for their choice of Ah Yes points will find it difficult to make a difference in the treatment of meridian diseases. For those acupuncturists who have not yet mastered the skills of fire acupuncture, the treatment of warm acupuncture should focus on the thickness of the acupuncture needle and the amount of moxibustion fire. For those physicians who have not yet mastered acupuncture therapy, it is worth trying out the round-lipped needles to compare the difference in efficacy with the milli-needles.
