Introduction to laser therapy for hemorrhoids

People often say; “Nine out of ten people have hemorrhoids”. This is to say that hemorrhoids are a common and frequent disease. There are various types of hemorrhoids such as internal, external and mixed hemorrhoids. After the introduction of laser technology in the 1960s, people used to treat hemorrhoids. In recent years, domestic hospitals such as Shanghai, Guangzhou, Sichuan, Hunan and eight hospitals in our city have applied laser technology to treat hemorrhoids and achieved good treatment results and accumulated rich experience. The United States, Russia, Austria and other countries have also reported more mature experience. There are three types of laser machines that are usually used for hemorrhoid treatment: helium-neon, carbon dioxide and YAG laser machines. The helium-neon laser is a red, visible light. It acts on the body without any adverse sensation. It is used to treat inflammatory external hemorrhoids, anal edema, perianal abscesses and anal fissures, and other diseases with significant results. Carbon dioxide laser is an invisible far-infrared light, which can be used for the early treatment of various anal diseases and can cause the local tissues of human body to coagulate and vaporize in an instant, thus playing a hemostatic and cutting therapeutic role. It can be used for the surgical treatment of external hemorrhoids, mixed hemorrhoids, anal papilloma and anal fistula, etc. YAG laser is mainly used for the treatment of internal hemorrhoids. It is also invisible light. It makes the treatment of internal hemorrhoids much easier because of its large and adjustable output power, as well as because it can be output through optical fiber. Laser therapy for various anal diseases is painless, except for surgical treatment of external hemorrhoids, mixed hemorrhoids and fistulas, which require local anesthesia. It can also reduce the problems of bleeding, pain and difficulty in urination that often occur after conventional surgery for hemorrhoids.
