What to do if you find hyperthyroidism

Hyperthyroidism is a common clinical condition with complex etiology. It is recommended that the consultation process be as follows: Step 1: Determine whether hyperthyroidism is diagnosed based on medical history, clinical manifestations, and then elevated thyroid function FT3 and FT4. Step 2: Identify the cause of hyperthyroidism Hyperthyroidism can be initially classified into: thyroid hyperthyroidism (including 8 causes), pituitary hyperthyroidism, hyperthyroidism with tumor, ovarian goiter with hyperthyroidism, medically induced hyperthyroidism and temporary hyperthyroidism, the most common of which is diffuse goiter with hyperthyroidism (also known as Graves’ disease). TSH, TRAb, TPOAb, TGAb, iodine uptake rate and thyroid ultrasound are useful for differential diagnosis, and fine needle aspiration cytopathology of the thyroid gland is feasible if necessary. Step 3: Evaluation of complications of hyperthyroidism Screening for hyperthyroid eye disease, hyperthyroid liver disease, hyperthyroid hematological changes, hyperthyroid heart disease, hyperthyroid myopathy, endocrine changes of hyperthyroidism, hyperthyroid psychosis, hyperthyroid skin changes, etc. Finally, an individualized treatment plan will be developed based on the test results.
