Anti-thyroid peroxidase antibody is an autoantibody caused by thyroiditis. His results are clinically important in the diagnosis of Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, acute and chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis. The cost of the thyroid peroxidase antibody test is not very high, probably in the range of 100-150 dollars. Of course there will be some regional variations, as different cities, hospitals and testing methods are different, so the price will not be exactly the same. The method of measuring thyroid peroxidase antibody is the same as that of thyroglobulin antibody, and both can be tested by chemiluminescence or ELISA. The significance of the test is approximately the same as that of the thyroglobulin antibody. It is mainly useful as a diagnostic aid in chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis, hyperthyroidism, and primary hypothyroidism. Therefore, the thyroid peroxidase antibody test and the thyroglobulin antibody test together are considered to be important marker antibodies for autoimmune thyroid disease, and if both are elevated, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, i.e., chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis, may be considered. The cost of the test is not very high, and it only takes 1-2 business days to see the results. It is important to note that you should not take aspirin or other clotting medications for two weeks prior to the blood test to avoid affecting the results.
