Do premature beats cause sudden death?

Usually, atrial premature beats are not likely to cause sudden death, while ventricular premature beats have the potential to cause sudden death. Atrial premature contractions are more common, and patients may experience chest tightness, shortness of breath, weakness and a feeling of cardiac arrest, etc. Most of them are functional, which are not dangerous and do not cause sudden death. In contrast, ventricular premature contractions are more serious and can lead to a feeling of missed heartbeats and fluttering, etc. Frequent attacks may aggravate angina pectoris, cause severe hypotension and heart failure, and even sudden death. For ventricular premature beats with mild symptoms, dynamic observation can be performed, but for multi-source and frequent ventricular premature beats, active treatment is required to avoid inducing ventricular fibrillation and thus reduce the risk of sudden death. When patients have significant discomfort in the precordial region, they need to be immediately admitted to the hospital for relevant investigations to clarify the specific nature of the disease and treat it symptomatically. At the same time, it is necessary to pay attention to a light diet, avoid staying up late, and maintain good habits in life.
