What’s wrong with the numbness of the scalp?

Scalp tingling, which is a clinical category of dermatological care, mainly includes two conditions caused by various reasons: transient histamine release from the scalp and local neurosensory abnormalities in the scalp due to herpes zoster. The skin of the scalp can be triggered by stress, anxiety, strenuous exercise, hot and cold stimulation, etc., which can lead to transient mast cell degranulation, during which histamine and a large number of other inflammatory mediators are released, which can act directly on the sensory nerve endings of the hair, resulting in transient numbness of the scalp. It is characterized clinically by a rapid onset, some of which can lead to mild itching that usually disappears in a short time without special treatment. In addition, herpes zoster can cause intermittent episodes of scalp numbness due to damage to local sensory nerve fibers at the beginning of the disease, which is characterized by numbness that is usually limited to one side of the scalp, with rapid electric shock-like episodes that can be relieved naturally after a certain period of time; in addition, the site of numbness is not necessarily limited to the new site of herpes zoster erythema and blisters, but often occurs on the same side, with ambiguous localization. In addition, if the numbness is prolonged, accompanied by severe fine sensory loss, the numbness extends from the hair to the face, and is accompanied by facial movement disorders such as mouth and eye distortion, it is necessary to consider facial palsy, peripheral and central nerve injury caused by various reasons, and a professional neurologist is required to give an accurate diagnosis according to the specific condition.
