The nipple is the visual focal point of a woman’s breast, and a pair of full and firm breasts with nipple invagination due to various congenital or acquired reasons can hardly be described as perfect, thus becoming an unspeakable problem for many women. The normal nipple of a woman is cylindrical, protruding from the breast plane about 1.5-2cm, surrounded by a circle of areola. If the nipple does not rise above the breast skin, it is called nipple invagination. The incidence of nipple invagination in women is 1 to 2 percent. Nipple invagination occurs in either young girls or middle-aged women. Before puberty, women’s breasts do not develop and their nipples are small. The main factor is the infection of the acquired nipple invasion, and it can also be caused by breast tumor, breast surgery, etc. Primary nipple invagination is mainly caused by poorly developed smooth muscle of the nipple and areola and lack of supporting tissue under the nipple. Secondary nipple invagination is caused by the pulling of diseased tissues in the breast such as inflammation, breast cancer, trauma or excessive sagging of the mammary gland in mastopexy. The degree of nipple invagination varies, from a receding nipple to a recessed or even turned nipple in severe cases. The nipple is not only an obstacle to the beauty of the breast, but also to the function of breastfeeding, and it is difficult to clean the area, the sunken part is easy to hide dirt, often causing local infection, and the ducts of the breast are connected to the sunken area, inflammation can spread to the breast and cause mastitis, so it should be corrected. The choice of treatment method for nipple invagination should be determined by the purpose of treatment, the main factor is whether or not to require breastfeeding after surgery. For those who require breastfeeding, non-surgical treatment and surgery to preserve the ducts of the breast should be the main treatment; for those who do not require breastfeeding, the main purpose is to make the nipple protrude and achieve cosmetic effects. The principle of non-surgical treatment is to make the nipple protrude by pulling or suction, but this method is only suitable for those with flat nipples and mild invagination, while for moderate or severe nipple invagination, surgical treatment should be used. The aim of surgical treatment is to ensure good nipple shape, stability of the result, and to enlarge the nipple. For correction of nipple invagination, the flap method is usually used, but this method can sometimes damage the milk ducts and affect the lactation function. External brace method to correct nipple invagination, this method does not require any incision on the skin, does not damage the milk ducts, and the nipple is pulled out through a traction object, fixed on the external brace and kept for 3-6 months to restore the normal appearance and lactation function. This method is suitable for mild, moderate and some severe nipple invaginations with breastfeeding requirements, and has good treatment results and low recurrence rate, effectively protecting women’s breastfeeding function. Although nipple invagination can be corrected, the key is prevention, and the following points should be noted: 1.
