Cough and sputum for more than 2 weeks or blood in the sputum are common suspicious symptoms of tuberculosis. The cough is usually mild, mainly dry or with a little mucus sputum. In the presence of cavity formation, sputum increases and may be purulent when combined with other bacterial infections. Some patients may have haemoptysis, most of which are small.
