The full clinical name for this disease is hyperprolactinemia. It is a type of disease in which serum prolactin is abnormally elevated for various reasons. There are many factors that cause abnormal elevation of serum prolactin, and in order to treat it, we must first find the cause, and then treat it according to the different causes. For example, prolactinemia caused by pituitary gland disease is the most common clinical condition, with pituitary prolactinoma being the most common, and the best treatment is chemotherapy plus surgery. For patients with primary hypothyroidism, polycystic ovary syndrome or patients with elevated serum prolactin caused by long-term medication, the best treatment is to control the primary disease so that the corresponding prolactin can return to normal, thus achieving a cure. There is also a type of idiopathic hyperprolactinemia, because in many cases no corresponding disease of the pituitary gland or central nervous system can be detected, so only symptomatic treatment can be given. Of course, the treatment of the disease and the patient themselves have a great deal to do with each other, and may not be able to achieve a complete cure even after using many treatments and modalities, but in clinical practice many patients’ symptoms can be improved.
