I was preparing for surgery when a call came in “An 11-year-old boy was kicked in the left eye by a horse at noon 3 days ago. I responded decisively, “Yes, I will contact the head nurse to arrange hospitalization immediately. After the surgery, I took the resident to see the patient. The child was seen by Tong Ren Ophthalmology after the injury, and was discharged after being cleaned and sutured. All the findings were not contraindicated for surgery. It was already 7:00 p.m., so we quickly arranged the surgery, which revealed multiple fractures at the skull base, opened the left optic nerve canal, and repaired the fracture of the left infraorbital wall. Postoperative anti-inflammatory and symptomatic treatment was administered. On the third day after surgery, the child’s mother was happy to tell me that the child could see the fingers in front of her eyes and count the number of fingers. On the eighth day after surgery, the child could see the cup on the windowsill ten meters away and could tell the color of the cup. I was very happy to see such a rapid recovery of the child’s vision, but I was even happier to see the child’s parents thanking us for the timely and effective surgery. At present, there are many patients with damage to the optic nerve canal due to various reasons, and the most effective is endoscopic minimally invasive decompression of the optic nerve canal and postoperative nerve nutrition for symptomatic treatment, but this surgery is demanding and requires a complete preoperative examination, and there are few hospitals in Beijing that can perform such surgery. I have accumulated a lot of experience in this type of surgery, from 5 to 65 years old patients, and some patients with cerebrospinal fluid nasal leakage, the postoperative results are very good, patients who have light perception before surgery have improved after surgery, and patients who have no light perception before surgery have 40% improvement in vision, I will continue to work hard in order to save the patients’ vision.
