The etiology of femoral head necrosis has not yet been clearly studied by either Chinese or Western medicine. Immune system disorders, hormone use, and alcohol are only high-risk factors that lead to ischemic necrosis of the femoral head, and the specific pathogenic mechanism is not yet clear. Therefore, other than avoiding high-risk factors, there is no etiological treatment for osteonecrosis of the femoral head. Nowadays, medical methods are used to reconstruct the local blood flow in the area of femoral head necrosis and promote local bone reconstruction, in the hope of maintaining the intact form of the femoral head and avoiding the collapse and deformation of the femoral head, thus avoiding secondary hip osteoarthritis and thus achieving the goal of avoiding hip replacement. The preservation of the intact femoral head and the absence of symptoms is now equivalent to a “cure”.
