Minimally Invasive Hip Replacement Xuzhou Tour

On December 9, at the invitation of the Department of Orthopaedics of Xuzhou First People’s Hospital, Professor Wui Kwong Chung, Director of the Nippin Joint Replacement and Reconstruction Center and Clinical Professor of MacQuarie University in New South Wales, Australia, came to Xuzhou First People’s Hospital for a visit and academic exchange. At 9:00 a.m., Cao Lei and Yang Xiaoning from the Department of Orthopaedics of the First People’s Hospital and Professor Wui Kwong Chung performed the operation of “artificial bilateral total knee replacement” on a 75-year-old female patient with bilateral knee osteoarthritis. The surgery lasted for several hours and was a complete success. According to Yang Xianing, director of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery of Xuzhou First People’s Hospital, the patient was a 75-year-old woman who was unfortunately suffering from “bilateral knee osteoarthritis” due to her failure to protect her joints during exercise, and her condition was so severe that she could not walk more than 100 meters. The surgery was necessary. The day before the surgery, with the patient’s consent, the orthopedic specialist at City First Hospital, together with Prof. Wui Kwong Chung, analyzed the patient’s condition and decided to perform an “artificial total knee replacement” surgery on her after considering her overall condition. Knee prostheses were installed in both knees to replace the necrotic joint tissue, and the surgery was successful with satisfactory results. Professor Wui Kwong Chung’s coaching was a great boost to the improvement of joint replacement surgery in Xuzhou, and benefited orthopaedic specialists from various hospitals. Since joint surgery requires high conditions in the operating room, although all orthopedic surgeons could not go to observe the surgery, they would study and discuss carefully based on the surgery video, and learn from Prof. Wui Kwong Chung’s guidance. At around 14:00 pm, Prof. Wui Kwong Chung was invited to participate in the “International Summit Forum and Workshop on Micro-Innovation Techniques for Artificial Joints in Xuzhou First People’s Hospital” hosted by Xuzhou First People’s Hospital, and gave lectures to the experts from various hospitals attending the workshop. Zhang Qingguo, director of the Department of Education of Xuzhou First People’s Hospital, presided over the conference and expressed his warm welcome and gratitude to Prof. Wui Kwong Chung, who came all the way to Xuzhou, and welcomed the experts and physicians from various hospitals in Jiangsu, Henan, Anhui, Shandong and other provinces and cities around Xuzhou. During the meeting, Prof. Wui Kwong Chung gave a lecture titled “Observation and lecture on artificial total knee joint replacement surgery”. Cao Lei, Director of the Department of Orthopaedics of Xuzhou First People’s Hospital, Bao Yaxing, Deputy Director of the Department of Orthopaedics, Yang Xiaoning, Director of the Department of Orthopaedics, Fu Guangmin, Deputy Director of the Department of Orthopaedics; Guo Kaijin, Director of the Department of Orthopaedics of XCMH, Wang Yehua, Director of the Department of Orthopaedics of Traumatology; Ouyang Xiao, Director of the Department of Orthopaedics of Xuzhou Cancer Hospital; Ma Chao, Director of the Department of Orthopaedics of Xuzhou Central Hospital; Yang Liuzhong, Director of the Department of Orthopaedics of Xuzhou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine; Wei Dong, Director of the Department of Orthopaedics of General Hospital of Mining; Liu Hongbing, Director of the Department of Orthopaedics of PLA 97 Hospital Liu Hongbing and other well-known orthopedic experts attended the lecture. More than 150 orthopedic specialists and physicians from various provinces and cities such as Jiangsu, Henan, Anhui, Shandong and other major hospitals around Xuzhou actively attended and listened to the lectures. During the lecture, Prof. Wui Kwong Chung introduced in detail the research status and progress of “Artificial Total Knee Joint Replacement Surgery” and borrowed models to explain it live. After Prof. Wui Kwong Chung’s wonderful lecture, Prof. Xu Zhihong from Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital gave a presentation on “Experience of minimally invasive anterolateral OCM approach to artificial hip replacement surgery”. The atmosphere was active and achieved a good academic exchange effect. Cao Lei, director of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Xuzhou First People’s Hospital, gave great recognition to the lectures of the experts. He said that the main purpose of this seminar was twofold: on the one hand, to discuss “artificial total knee joint replacement surgery”. The incidence of knee osteoarthritis is very high, especially in the middle-aged and elderly population, so there are more knee replacements, but there are still some shortcomings in the implementation of the surgery, through Professor Wui Kwong Chung’s explanation of the surgery and multimedia demonstration, we can study and analyze together with our colleagues from different provinces and cities, and take the essence of it, so as to lay a more scientific, accurate and standardized implementation of joint replacement in the future. The purpose is to lay a solid foundation for scientific, precise and standardized joint replacement. On the other hand, we will promote the minimally invasive hip replacement surgery. At present, the major hospitals in Xuzhou have not yet carried out minimally invasive hip surgery. City No.1 Hospital will also strive to be the first in the region to introduce and implement minimally invasive hip surgery to seek higher benefits for the majority of orthopedic patients and reduce the burden in the future.
