Astigmatism of 175 degrees is a bit serious. Astigmatism of more than 200 degrees will cause amblyopia. For children, astigmatism of more than 200 degrees is detected and glasses must be worn. A little lower, around 125 degrees of astigmatism will cause fatigue, blurred vision and require squinting, so glasses are recommended. 75 degrees of astigmatism is a little mildly blurred, and astigmatism of less than 50 degrees does not affect vision and does not require glasses. The ideal situation is to have no astigmatism, however, the chance of this is less than 10%. The essence of astigmatism is that the eye is not round enough and appears to be an oval shape on the coronal plane, like the shape of a person’s face, which is somewhat flattened. Astigmatism is highly idiosyncratic and not particularly distinctive.
