How to treat trichomoniasis

Trichomoniasis is a vaginal inflammation caused by Trichomonas vaginalis infection and is a common type of vaginal inflammation in women, mainly transmitted directly through sexual contact. The main treatment is oral nitroimidazole medication and avoiding vaginal douching. 1.First infection: Patients with first infection should take oral metronidazole or tinidazole under doctor’s instruction, the dosage and course of treatment should be followed, and treatment should be adhered to, 90%-95% of patients can be cured. 2. Recurrence or reinfection: Since trichomoniasis has a higher chance of recurrence or reinfection, patients need to be reviewed regularly during the first 3 months of treatment, and patients who are not completely cured or have recurrence need to increase the dosage and course of treatment. 3. Pregnant patients: The main focus is to reduce the patient’s symptoms and the treatment drug is metronidazole. 4. Precautions: Trichomoniasis is mainly transmitted through sexual contact, so sexual partners should be treated at the same time. Unprotected sex should be avoided until it is cured. For breastfeeding patients, avoid breastfeeding for 12-24 hours after taking metronidazole; for those taking tinidazole, avoid breastfeeding for 3 days after taking the drug. To avoid reinfection, disinfect close contact items such as underwear and towels with high temperature. As mentioned above, the treatment of trichomoniasis is mainly oral treatment with nitroimidazoles and avoid douching during the treatment period. To avoid recurrence, pay attention to personal and sexual hygiene in daily life.
