Autoimmune encephalitis is an inflammatory disease of the central nervous system, mainly related to the autoimmune response, which occurs mainly because the patient’s immune system “does not distinguish between the enemy and itself” and mistakes its own brain tissue for foreign antigens, creating a specific “attack” on its own brain tissue. “The specific antibodies and immune attack on the brain tissue can be induced by the infection and eventually trigger the process of brain tissue inflammation. The pathogenic mechanism is unknown, and to a lesser extent, it may be related to predisposing factors such as tumors and infections, including teratomas, tumors (paraneoplastic syndrome), and herpes simplex virus/mycoplasma/streptococcal infections.
