Sleep apnea hypoventilation syndrome is an increasingly popular disease in modern society, which seriously affects the health of patients and the rest of their families, and is receiving increasingly widespread attention. Regarding sleep apnea syndrome (commonly known as snoring), the first step should be to first choose to do sleep breathing monitoring to determine the degree of sleep breathing obstruction. If the test suggests no obvious sleep breathing obstruction, just simple snoring, the current Chinese medical treatment is limited and surgery basically does not solve the problem. If the monitoring suggests central sleep apnea, the current medical means is also difficult to solve. If it is suggestive of peripheral sleep apnea (i.e. sleep apnea obstruction), a three-step therapy can be considered: Step 1: exercise, weight loss, and adjustment of sleep posture. This is the basis of treatment. Step 2: CPAP machine (positive respiratory pressure ventilator) therapy. This is a conservative treatment, which is commonly promoted abroad. The disadvantage is that you have to wear a mask when you sleep, which some patients find difficult to accept. Step 3: Surgical treatment. Surgery is nasal surgery (if there are nasal obstruction-related diseases, such as deviated septum, hypertrophic rhinitis, sinusitis, nasal polyps, etc.) and or pharyngeal surgery (palatopharyngoplasty). The fees vary from place to place depending on the treatment conditions. One person is needed for post-operative care.
