Reddish urine is one of the manifestations of many diseases, but it can also be caused by excessive consumption of foods with red colour such as red heart dragon fruit and mulberries. As the former has a higher probability, it is important to seek medical attention as soon as red urine is detected.
If the patient has renal colic, kidney masses, interrupted urine flow, thin urine stream and difficulty in urination, visit a urologist.
If accompanied by back pain and high fever, seek emergency medical attention; if accompanied by oedema, hypertension and proteinuria, seek medical attention from a nephrologist.
If accompanied by bleeding from skin mucous membranes and other areas, see a haematologist.
