Massage is not able to treat sciatica. Most sciatica is caused by a herniated lumbar disc compressing the sciatic nerve, in which case massage is ineffective. The best way to treat sciatica is to take strict bed rest to reduce the pressure of the lumbar disc on the sciatic nerve. If the pain is not relieved by rest, you can take oral pain medication, and if it is more severe, you can also infuse some medication, such as nerve nutrition or dehydration and swelling medication. If the effect is not obvious after these treatments, especially after two weeks of strict bed rest, you should go to the hospital in time for imaging to see if the sciatic nerve is seriously compressed and needs surgery.
