Are teratomas serious?

Benign teratomas are not serious, while malignant teratomas are very serious because they are a type of ovarian cancer. If a benign teratoma is found to be larger than 5 centimeters in size, the patient can usually be completely cured if surgery is performed in time. Malignant teratoma is a teratoma that is not fully developed and is prone to metastasis even after surgery and therefore has a very high mortality rate. Ovarian teratoma is a common type of ovarian germ cell tumor. It does not evolve after a woman has conceived a strange fetus, but comes from the abnormal proliferation of germ cells and is a tumor that grows in the ovary formed by the abnormal proliferation and aggregation of germ cells. Therefore, the tumor may contain ectodermal tissues such as hair, oil, skin, teeth, bone fragments, etc. It may also contain mesodermal or endodermal tissues such as muscles, gastrointestinal tissues, thyroid tissues, etc. Matured teratoma is a benign tumor and will not show any obvious symptoms in general, but will only be detected during physical examination. However, immature teratomas are malignant tumors that can cause severe abdominal pain, irregular menstruation and other symptoms in women. If a woman is found to have a teratoma during a medical checkup, the nature of the tumor must be determined first and then treated promptly. In most cases, once a teratoma is found, it will be removed surgically.
