Hazards of inguinal hernia and postoperative considerations

Some patients with inguinal hernia do not feel much discomfort and ignore the disease. In this way, the hernia contents often go back and forth up and down, causing the neck of the hernia sac to be repeatedly rubbed and become hypertrophic and tough. The hernia ring mouth is stimulated by the hernia contents for a long time, which can easily lead to adhesions between the hernia contents and the hernia sac. In addition, inguinal hernia can also affect the digestive system of patients, resulting in symptoms such as lower abdominal cramps, abdominal flatulence, abdominal pain, constipation, poor nutrient absorption, easy fatigue and decreased physical fitness. Since the inguinal region is adjacent to the genitourinary system, older patients are prone to bladder or prostate diseases such as frequent urination, urgent urination, and increased nocturia; children may be affected by the normal development of testicles due to the extrusion of the hernia contents; and middle-aged and young patients are prone to sexual dysfunction. Therefore, inguinal hernia is not a minor problem that can be treated or not, and patients should be treated early to prevent inevitable losses due to missing the best time. Tension-free inguinal hernia repair is generally clinically effective, but if the daily postoperative care is not done well, the hernia may recur and special attention should be paid. Please keep the wound clean and dry early after discharge and remember to follow up with the hospital as instructed by the physician; 2. Drink more water to prevent constipation and increased abdominal pressure during defecation, which may lead to hernia recurrence; 4. Avoid straining to defecate, sit-ups, climbing stairs, riding bicycle or motorcycle within one month after surgery; 5. If you have chronic cough, you should go to the internal medicine department to prevent the recurrence of hernia; 8. If recurrent hernia or abnormal enlargement of scrotum occurs after male patients are discharged from the hospital, please consult the doctor as soon as possible.
