What is Sudden Deafness

Sudden deafness is an unexplained, sudden onset of sensorineural deafness, mostly associated with tinnitus and, in a few patients, vertigo. Unilateral deafness is common. In Chinese medicine, it belongs to the category of violent deafness and stroke deafness. Sudden deafness is more common in clinical practice. The incidence of sudden deafness has increased significantly in recent years. The main causes of sudden deafness are mumps virus (unilateral deafness), influenza virus, coxsackievirus, adenovirus; in addition, mental tension, overexcitement, excitement, exertion and alcohol and other factors cause spasm or embolism of the internal auditory artery, so that the inner ear blood supply and oxygen supply is impaired is also an important factor; in addition, violent coughing, sneezing, bending low, pinching the nose and drumming air to increase the pressure in the vagus (i.e. inner ear) to cause the rupture of the cochlear membrane to deafness. The symptoms of sudden deafness are: sudden unilateral (bilateral) deafness with tinnitus, stuffiness in the ear, vertigo, nausea and vomiting in most patients. The tympanic membrane and eustachian tube examination are normal, and the hearing examination is sensorineural DD deafness, and the hearing curve is mostly flat and high frequency type. Hearing loss is severe, mostly severe or even total deafness. The earlier the treatment of sudden deafness, the better the recovery. More than 80% of those who start treatment within one week of the onset of the disease can recover or partially recover their hearing; those who go through 3 months should not give up the active, scientific and lasting treatment. This is because it takes time for the deformed auditory nerve cells to recover or regenerate. Treatment can be done by vasodilation, blood viscosity reduction, neurotrophic agents, and Danshen Chuanxiongzin preparation. In recent years, the clinical application of biologics and drugs such as Tretan, Duxul and Vinpocetin have been used internationally with more obvious efficacy.
