Ordinary IOLs have only one focal point and can only have a good distance vision, but you need to wear a presbyopic lens to see things close up. Nowadays, there are multifocal IOLs in the clinic, which allow patients to have good vision at both distance and near without the need to wear glasses. So, are all patients suitable for the implantation of multifocal IOLs? Obviously not. Multifocal IOLs can greatly improve the quality of life of patients, but not all patients are able to use multifocal IOLs. For example, patients with macular degeneration, severe corneal scarring, large astigmatism, and insufficiently stabilized capsular bag are not suitable for multifocal lenses. At the same time, the implantation of multifocal lenses requires a certain period of visual acclimatization, which is not suitable for patients who like to pursue perfection in everything they do, or who are demanding and cannot tolerate this period of acclimatization.
