Is a fasting blood sugar of 6.1 considered diabetes?

Fasting blood glucose 6.1mmol/L is normal high value, not considered diabetes, it is recommended to monitor the postprandial blood glucose or random blood glucose at the same time. In general, the normal range of blood glucose in the fasting state is 3.9~6.1mmol/L. If the fasting blood glucose is greater than or equal to 7.0mmol/L, and exclude stress-induced transient elevation of blood glucose, then diabetes mellitus is considered. Diagnostic criteria for diabetes mellitus: Fasting blood glucose ≥7.0 mmol/L, or 2-hour post glycemic load blood glucose ≥11.1 mmol/L, or random blood glucose ≥11.1 mmol/L, accompanied by the symptoms of three more and one less (drinking, eating, urinating, and weight loss), diabetes mellitus can be diagnosed. It is recommended to retest blood glucose, including fasting blood glucose and postprandial blood glucose, and at the same time, consult a doctor to improve the glucose tolerance test, glycated hemoglobin and other auxiliary tests to further clarify the diagnosis.
