Neck and shoulder pain is not always whiplash!

One of the most confusing diseases that occur with neck and shoulder pain is frozen shoulder. Frozen shoulder is a chronic inflammation of the muscles, tendons, bursa, joint capsule and other soft tissues around the shoulder. Patients often have pain in the neck and shoulder, which can be easily confused with cervical spondylosis. Since the lesion of frozen shoulder is located in the soft tissues around the shoulder, it directly affects the movement of the shoulder joint, especially abduction and posterior extension, so the patient cannot make movements such as touching the trouser pocket, tying the belt, touching the back and scratching the head. Therefore, the patient cannot touch the trouser pocket, tie the belt, touch the back or scratch the head. In contrast, cervical spondylosis lesions in the neck generally do not show such manifestations as shoulder pressure pain and restricted activities, and neck traction can reduce the symptoms. Although cervical spondylosis is common in the elderly, it is also directly related to poor sleep posture and long-term cervical spine bending, so there is a corresponding population of young people. Therefore, it is not difficult to distinguish the two. However, it has been found that cervical spondylosis and frozen shoulder can exist together, which may be caused by spasm and pain in the shoulder muscles caused by nerve root compression and stimulation, and long-term shoulder joint inactivity. Therefore, in these cases, cervical spondylosis should be treated mainly along with frozen shoulder.
