Uterine volume evaluation

The size of the uterus increases when there is a pathology (such as suffering from fibroids, adenomyosis, hypertrophy, inflammation and malignant tumors) and is usually expressed after gynecological examination as if it were X weeks of pregnancy, for example, the size of the uterus as if it were 8 weeks of pregnancy means that the uterus has increased in size and reached the size of the uterine volume at 8 weeks of pregnancy, not that the patient is actually pregnant. There are several methods of uterine volume evaluation criteria as follows. 1. Manual diagnosis method: clinically, the doctor will write the size of the uterus felt by manual diagnosis or/and the size of the fibroids after checking the pelvis. However, the doctor’s experience, the combination of other pelvic diseases or the patient’s obesity can significantly affect the examination results. Therefore, doctors often suggest patients to do further ultrasonography to measure the size of the uterus and fibroids, and also to measure the endometrial thickness at the same time for more accurate results. 2. Ultrasound measurement method: The length, width and thickness of the uterus and the fibroids it contains are measured separately (the largest fibroids are measured if there are multiple fibroids). The size of the uterus is calculated as follows: ① length: the distance from the endocervix to the bottom of the uterus; ② thickness: the largest anterior and posterior diameter at the bottom of the uterus; ③ width: the width at the largest anterior and posterior diameter at the bottom of the uterus. The uterus is calculated as an ellipsoidal sphere, volume (cm3) = length x width x thickness x 0.5236. myoma is calculated as a round sphere in terms of volume. 3.CT and MR (magnetic resonance) measurement method: Of course, it can be used for measurement, the method is the same as ultrasound measurement, but it is more expensive. 4.Weighing method:Surgical removal of uterus is weighed directly. 5.Drainage method: After surgical removal of the uterus, it is placed into a container full of water, and the volume of drained water is both the volume of the uterus.
