In my clinical work, I often face the same question repeatedly asked by patients or family members: “How long can I live with colorectal cancer? In fact, this is a simple but complex question that clinicians face day after day, which is difficult to answer and has to be answered. It is simple because: the prognosis of colorectal cancer is directly related to the pathological stage, and the 5-year survival rate can be roughly determined based on the pathological stage. It is complicated because: the survival of tumors with the same stage is different? The prognosis of colorectal cancer, like its cause, is affected by many factors and cannot be generalized. The timing of detection, whether the treatment is standardized and reasonable, whether the follow-up is on time, whether the adjuvant treatment is perfect, the stage of tumor, the differentiation degree of tumor, etc. all affect the prognosis and survival time of colon cancer. Therefore, it is really difficult for doctors to judge the specific survival time when dealing with specific patients, and they can only judge the approximate 5-year survival probability of different stages of colorectal cancer based on previous data.
